Elon Musk took to Twitter to tweet about Ethereum- but it’s not the conventional speculative tweet. He went on and posted a tweet about how the developers of Twitter’s Ethereum scam bots have “mad skillz.”
From the tweet, we can see that the SpaceX/Tesla giant is impressed by these scam bots that are running amok all over Twitter. Ethereum’s creator, Vitalik Buterin, immediately replied to Musk with a semi-jokingly tweet about how he wishes Musks’ first tweet about his token wasn’t about the bots.
Buterin is well aware of the scam bots and even added “Not Giving Away ETH” to his Twitter handle to counter the multitudes of scam bots giving fraudulent information to Twitter users. They attempt to trick people into sending the bot Ether in an old-school scam attempt.
I do wish @elonmusk's first tweet about ethereum was about the tech rather than the twitter scambots……..@jack help us please? Or someone from the ETH community make a layer 2 scam filtering solution, please? https://t.co/biVRshZmne

Twitter scam artists simply create profiles that look like the actual profile of a leading figure. In Buterin’s case, a fake profile of him. When he tweets, the bots will immediately comment on it and pretend that the same person is giving away crypto. Since the accounts are identical, it’s hard for the typical users to distinguish between the two without investigating. They then send an amount of Ether to a crypto address to which they get tricked into thinking they’ll get a positive ROI back.
Musk’s interest in crypto is no secret. It’s been widely debated in the community and fans on whether or not he’s actually an investor. He was found to be holding a book about crypto last March, and he’s talked about coins in on Twitter showing off his knowledge about the investment practice.
However, he revealed in February that he’s a HODLer of a partial Bitcoin that a friend sent him many years ago. Whether or not he invests actively is unknown.
